MDK/Warthog Racing/MotoConcepts Privateers Rule the 2008 U.S. Open
October 14, 2008, 10:51am
In a field that was dominated by factory-backed riders, the MDK/Warthog Racing Academy/MotoConcepts privateers broke through at an astonishing rate at the 2009 Rockstar Energy Drink US Open at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
Only three privateers total made the mains over the two day event – two of those riders were standouts from the MDK/Warthog Racing Academy/MotoConcepts team.
Friday night’s action saw Chris Blose dominate the 2nd LCQ to advance to the final. In the final, Chris proved he belonged, running 3rd for many laps in front of a phalanx of factory warriors, before succumbing to a head first crash that pushed Chris back to an 11th place finish.
Chris Blose is supported by additional sponsors including Trick Stix, Bell Helmets, Fly Racing, Wves Edge Performance, DeCal Works, and Scott Goggles.
Daniel Blair was the man of the night on Saturday as he blasted a holeshot in the 2nd LCQ on a 2006 “Privateer Special” Honda 450 and totally decimated the field to earn his place in the main. After a horrendous start in the main, Daniel battled to an eventual 13th place finish after which he immediately left the arena to go play a gig as the lead singer of the “Main Event” rock band at a US Open after party. Daniel is certainly a multi-talented renaissance man!
Daniel’s other sponsors include CR1, Faultline Powersports, Scott Goggles, and Renthal.
Also riding for the team at the US OPEN were Tiger Lacey and Mike Horban. They both put in solid effort but just missed opportunities to qualify for the mains.
As always, there was Stitch, the team’s Crew Chief (and Chris Blose’s mechanic), who worked himself to the bone to give everyone of these kids a chance to compete on the track. Stitch just gets down to business and makes things happen.
And probably most helpful to the team was the support provided by the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute Internship program. MMI provided three skilled technicians that helped with everything, including pit setup and tear down as well as servicing more race bikes than you can shake a stick at. Well done MMI!!
Said Scott Kandel, Chief Altruistic Officer of the Warthog Racing Academy, “With Chris and Daniel making the mains, I figure we placed two-thirds of the privateers in the mains. That’s a damn good batting average. I’m really looking forward to see how our 2009 reconstituted team will do at A1. I think it will be another great year for our riders and sponsors”
Special thanks to Dave Prater and Feld Entertainment for accommodating us so well and to the major sponsors that are with us week in and week out – MDK Motorsports, MDK Speed, MotoConcepts, DeCal Works, Smooth Industries, MMI, Transworld Motocross, RacerX, MotocrossGiant.com, GoProCameras, The Plumber Inc., Xtream Clean, and Round Wheels.
