  • THOR Mega Series Closes with the Showdown
Blountville, TN - October 7, 2008 The 2008 THOR UNITED STATES MEGA SERIES presented by DUNLOP comes to a close at Muddy Creek Raceway on October 17-18-19. The series is one of America’s largest amateur motocross series featuring some of the nation’s top talent in the youth and amateur classes plus the nation’s fastest up and coming pros. This event was named in SPORTS ILLUSTRATED Magazine as one of “Tennessee’s Top Sporting Events”.

The series finale, the 21st annual SUZUKI TOP GUN SHOWDOWN, is always one of the season’s largest with 1100 to 1400 riders from 20 to 25 states. The unique event seeds the series “top 5” into the main event and pits them against the fastest who come in just for this event. Every year some of the nation’s fastest up and coming pro riders use this event to work on their speed as they transition from amateur racing to pro racing. As far back as Damon Bradshaw dominating in 1989, then Ricky Carmichael made this his second ever pro race as he and Mike Brown had a epic battle that locals still talk about. Last year it was PJ Larsen and Zach Osborne splitting pro class wins.

Since the first of March the THOR United States Mega Series has tracked across five states and it all comes down to this “MAIN EVENT” for the 2008 racing season! North Carolina rider Brad Modjewski is leading the series points in both pro classes, but he still has to perform well at the SUZUKI TOP GUN SHOWDOWN in order to win his first ever Mega Series title. Georgia’s Auston Albers is within striking distance in the Lites A class and Jon Boruff can win the title in the Motocross A class if Modjewski isn’t up to top speed.

There will be 39 different classes of racers, pee wees to the pros will be competing in Sunday’s “MAIN EVENT”. Saturday is a qualifier day to get the field narrowed down to a full gate of 40 riders in each class.

Muddy Creek Raceway – Exit #63 off I-81 and follow the signs 3 miles.

Saturday & Sunday = Racing at 9:00am - - RAIN or SHINE.
