Andrew Short to Race Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open

  • Andrew Short to Race Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open
AURORA, Ill. (September 25, 2008) – The Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open announced today that Honda’s Andrew Short, who finished third in the AMA Motocross Championships this summer, will compete at this year’s 10th anniversary race inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena October 10-12.

At the MGM Grand Garden Arena in 2007 Short finished 3-7, which was good for sixth overall, marking his best premier class Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open finish to date. In 2005, Short finished 12-1 in the AMA Lites class to earn fifth overall.

“Back in 2005 I had a blast racing at the U.S. Open,” said Short. “I love the track because I perform better on tighter courses. I grew up racing amateur supercross in Colorado, and the tracks were all very tight. I raced 50s, 60s 80s and big bikes on those circuits, so I am used to technical stuff. I am able to carry a lot of speed through the tight corners.”

“The race has a much more laid back atmosphere because you can just go for broke out there,” added Short. “There is not a points race to worry about, so we can focus on one race with one huge purse. The other great thing about the event is that it’s held inside the MGM Grand where we all stay.”

Short entered his first Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites season in 2001 and quickly moved up the ranks, winning the Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout twice before moving to the premier AMA Supercross class. This year in AMA Supercross, Short finished third overall earning five podiums and an additional seven top-five finishes. In AMA Motocross, Short had a consistent season and finished third in the points standings.

Short joins the impressive line-up of racers competing in this year’s Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open, including defending AMA Supercross class champion Chad Reed, former AMA Supercross class champion James Stewart, two-time defending Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout winner Ryan Dungey and Yamaha’s factory superstar Josh Hill.

Like last year’s Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open, the format for the main event will be an open class. This essentially means that riders from the AMA 450F class and AMA 250F class will compete in the same event. Also, this year the top-10 AMA Arenacross riders have been invited to the race. This diversity will add great excitement to an already stellar weekend of racing.

More exciting announcements about the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open will be made shortly. Stay tuned to www.ussx.com for more news and information.
