  • Redux Beverages/Brawndo Honda Event Update

June 28th, 2008
Lakewood, CO

The 2008 AMA Toyota Motocross National Series moved to the mile-high city of Denver, Colorado this weekend for the first ever “National Under the Lights”.  In an effort to improve spectator conditions, the promoter of the event shifted the race to Saturday and the timing such that the second motos would be held under the lights.  The gamble paid dividends, as the crowd was enormous and the track conditions stayed good throughout the night.

Team Redux Beverages/Brawndo Honda was in full force under the Colorado stars, with Bob Kiniry racing his 2008 Honda CRF 250R and the Ryan’s (Clark and Grantom) doing their duties aboard 2008 CRF 450R’s.

“Brawndo” Bob Kiniry led the charge again this weekend, setting solid qualification times and ripping off the gate in the first moto.  His charge came to a halt in turn one when he tangled with another rider and crashed, forcing him to restart in dead last.  Bob rallied back to a respectable 24th position by the end of the moto.

The second moto was looking good for our bass-fishing friend, as he cast himself out to a top ten start.  He was doing battle in a pack of about four riders, spanning from eighth to twelfth position and looked to be reeling in a solid top ten.  Just after the halfway point, Bob experienced a mechanical problem with his bike which forced an early retirement from the race.  Bob rode great and will be back strong next weekend for another battle.

“Redux” Ryan Clark was still nursing a sore ankle suffered two-weeks prior at Mt. Morris, but was looking to leave Colorado with some points and no further injury.

The first moto was looking good, as Ryan had a top fifteen start and was moving up methodically.  On the third lap, he caught his foot in a rut section and tweaked the already tender ankle.  After a lap of rolling the track trying to regain his composure, he rallied a charge that took him back up to 29th position when the checkers flew.

The second moto started off with another top fifteen start.  This time, however, he would not experience the problems of moto one.  He battled the moto through, and ended up being rewarded with 15th place.  His 29/15 moto score garnered 18th overall.

The story of the weekend was definitely Ryan Grantom.  Grantom has been gradually improving at every round, and was looking for his first top twenty overall finish.  He would not disappoint.

Grantom made it into the motos the hard way, having to ride the Last Chance Qualifier to secure his gate position.  Once there, however, he proved more than worthy of a spot on the gate by finishing third.

In moto one, Grantom had a solid start and was running consistently quick laps throughout.  He was in the top fifteen for most of the moto before slipping back to 18th at the finish, earning three national points.

In the second moto Grantom ripped a top five start and stayed in the top ten for quite some time.  He lost positions as the long race wore on, but managed to equal his first moto performance of 18th, rewarding him with three additional points.  Ryan’s 18/18 moto finish earned him six points for 19th overall on the weekend.  Congratulations are in order for Ryan for his first (of many) top twenty overall finishes.

The next event for Team Redux Beverages/Brawndo Honda will be on July 6th at Red Bud Track and Trail in Buchanan, MI.  Look for plenty of cold Brawndo, autographs from the riders and free giveaways in the paddock.  Hope to see you there!
