Freestone County Raceway Eager to Build Upon Success
WORTHAM, Tex. (May 28, 2008) – After a hugely successful rookie effort last season, Freestone Country Raceway is excited to build upon what has quickly become one of the top races of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF with its Monster Energy Freestone Motocross National Presented by Yamaha, Kicker Audio, and Berkey’s Plumbing on June 7-8. After serving host to an impressive audience in just its first year, the state-of-the-art facility in
The sprawling landscape of the track layout allows for some of the most exciting action the tour experiences all season. With its wide racing surface, high quality soil, and a tremendous sand section, the flowing track provides a variety of challenges and unique characteristics for the world’s best motocross riders. With its vast acreage, fans receive great opportunities to get up close and personal with the on-track activities as well as enjoy some premier camping opportunities. This season, track officials have taken even more initiative to increase viewing access by adding more bleachers, infield areas, and spectator berms.
Last season, defending AMA Toyota Motocross Champion Grant Langston of Factory Yamaha became the inaugural winner at Freestone along with defending AMA Motocross Lites Champion Ryan Villopoto of Monster Energy/Pro Circuit\Kawasaki. With the recent injuries to Langston during the off season, the motocross faithful can expect a new face on the top of the podium in 2008. After a fierce battle with teammate Ben Townley in 2007, Villopoto welcomes the challenges of new teammates Austin Stroupe and Brett Metcalfe as well as Rockstar/Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey and Boost Mobile Yamaha of Troy’s Jason Lawrence.
Action kicks off for the Monster Energy/Yamaha Freestone Motocross National on Saturday, with AMA Pro practice and qualifying as well as a $5k pit bike race that evening, followed by live entertainment. In addition, the Women’s Motocross Association (WMA) competes in round two of its season. Four-time champion Jessica Patterson, perennial front-runner Tarah Gieger, and rookie sensation Ashley Fiolek will battle it out in two motos throughout the weekend, beginning with moto one on Saturday and concluding with the second moto on Sunday after the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF.
