Hooters-Moto XXX Tamer SX Race Report
Toronto, Ontario, Canada. 03/29/08
After a much needed weekend off the AMA Monster Energy Supercross series returned to action this past weekend inside the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This event marks the solitary international Supercross on the 2008 schedule and was the 12th round of the 16 round series. Since the event was not an official AMA sanctioned Lites round team rider Eric Sorby was the lone member of the Hooters/Moto XXX Tamer team competing.
Even though the Rogers Centre is a domed facility the dirt used to build the track was a bit wet and the riders were forced to navigate through deep ruts and soft turns all throughout the track. But that didn’t stop Eric Sorby from posting some quick times in practice and landing himself in the second Supercross class heat race of the night. On the start of the race Sorby was able to pull down a top 10 start and began searching for the smooth lines around the track. Riding inside qualifying position Sorby was looking good when a flat rear tire almost derailed his efforts. Fortunately he was able to hold on and finish in ninth transferring directly into the main.
With the track continually deteriorating the 20 riders loaded the gate for the Supercross class main event. As the pack skidded into the soft first turn Eric Sorby got pushed out by another rider and hit the dirt. After getting up in dead last Sorby rode the wheels off his Honda 450R and by the end of the second lap had worked his way past nine riders and into 11th place. A couple of short laps later Sorby found himself inside the top 10 and riding well. With only five laps remaining in the race Sorby made a slight mistake in one of the tricky rhythm sections and it cost him a couple of spots. He would ride smart the final few laps on his way to a 12th place finish.
With the track being as rough and technical as it was the team was happy with Eric’s ride. Commented team manager Allan Brown: “Eric has been improving all season and he rode really well tonight. Had it not been for that small mistake late in the race he would have had another solid top 10 performance.”
This coming weekend the series heads south to the Lone Star State and the city of Dallas. The lucky 13th round of the series will take place in Texas Stadium where the Hooters/Moto XXX Tamer team will be back in full force. All four riders team riders and the beautiful Hooters girls will be there signing autographs and handing out posters so be sure to stop by and pick one up. See you there!
