Sign of the (Lap) Times: Toronto

Red Dog designed the Toronto track.

Scott USA’s Bevo Forti called the Toronto SX “the first mud race inside a dome.” Jason Thomas said, “I’m pretty excited to have gotten a top 10 at my first-ever Endurocross." Supposedly, the Tim Ferry-designed track was built with frozen dirt, and as it thawed out, well, it got really, really soft, resulting in no shortage of lines and ruts. The track also had one of the longest lap times we’ve seen all year, making for a physically demanding race for all the competitors. Let’s take a look at each rider’s best lap time on the rough-and-rutted Toronto course.

The fastest Lites rider all night was clearly #58, DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports/BBMX’s Kyle Cunningham, who scored a lap time of 1:01.963--almost two full seconds faster than the next rider, who happened to be his teammate and winner Shaun Skinner (1:03.415). The next two fastest riders were, as you probably guessed, BBMX riders Matt Boni (1:03.419) and Kyle Keylon (1:03.638). Then came the fastest Canadian Lites rider, Brady Sheren, who had a 1:03.803 on his way to a fourth-place finish.

Kyle Cunningham had the fastest Lites time.

AMA Supercross

After all the qualifiers and 15 laps of Lites racing, the track was punished by the time the AMA Supercross class lined up for their 20-lap main event. Nonetheless, San Manuel Yamaha’s Chad Reed stepped up and scored the best lap time of the night on his way to his seventh win of the season. His 59.299 edged out Honda Red Bull Racing’s Davi Millsaps, who had a 59.716. They were the only two riders to dip below the minute mark. Third on the lap chart was Torco Racing Fuels Honda’s Kevin Windham, with a 1:00.138.

Biggest surprise: Check out the fifth- and sixth-fastest riders, Travis Preston and Eric Sorby, who had times faster than last week’s main-event winner, Josh Hill! Bad Boy Energy Drink’s Jake Marsack rode well in the ruts too, as he had the eighth-fastest time in the AMA Supercross class.

Moto XXX/Hooters Honda's Eric Sorby had some solid lap times in the AMA Supercross class.
