  • It's Official: Ben Coisy to Honda Red Bull

Torrance, CA: American Honda announced today that reigning French Supercross Champion, Benjamin Coisy, will compete for the Honda Red Bull Racing team in the 2008 Supercross Lites East championship, which kicks off February 22, 2008 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia.

Coisy, who calls Manosque, France home, will fill in for the injured Ben Townley, who broke his foot prior to the 2008 season opener. Townley’s injury required surgery and an extensive rehabilitation period. While Honda was hopeful Townley could start the Lites East series, he has not been cleared by his doctors to ride, which means he will miss at least some portion of the Lites East series.

The Honda Red Bull Racing team is committed to winning the Lites East championship. Riding under number 979, Coisy will spearhead the Lites East effort for the Honda Red Bull Racing team on the factory Honda CRF250R. A 23-year-old French native, Coisy has been racing Honda CRF250R and CRF450R machines for the last four of his six years as a professional racer, and he brings a wealth of Supercross experience and determination to the Honda Red Bull Racing team.

“Honda Red Bull Racing is very excited to have Coisy join the team,” said Honda Motorsports Manager Chuck Miller. “We’re here to race, and it’s unfortunate Ben Townley will not be able to start the series for us. But Coisy has a lot of talent and speed, and we look for him and our awesome CRF250R to do a great job for our team in the series. We are also looking forward to seeing Ben Townley back on the bike, back up to speed and back in action for the Honda Red Bull Racing team.”
