Villopoto in for Atlanta

Heading into the East Region series opener in Atlanta, the main focus is on the reigning national champion and defending Western Region Lites champion Ryan Villopoto. The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider had surgery to repair the navicular bone in his wrist at the end of the summer last year. Just weeks later he had another procedure on the same wrist. Since then, many have speculated whether or not Ryan would be ready or able to compete at the start of the East Region series. I spoke with Ryan today to get the latest update right from him.
"I've been riding and things are going pretty well. Bones [Jim Bacon] stayed back last weekend and we did a bunch of testing to get ready. I'm riding again today and tomorrow and then I head to Atlanta for press day. My wrist actually feels pretty good. And my fitness is okay, too. I tested all day and still did a moto when we were done last weekend. So, I don't think fitness is going to be a problem at all."
