  • Nick Wey & MDK/KTM Place 9th @ San Diego
Moves To Within Four Points Of 7th Place Overall In Supercross Class Standings; Wey continues to impress on the KTM450, giving the factory its best American supercross finishes in history with his 3rd consecutive top ten placing

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 11, 2008)
– Team MDK/KTM’s Nick Wey scored a solid podium finish in his heat race (No. 2), right behind Chad Reed and Kevin Windham, then backed that effort with another top ten finish in the premier SX class main event of the 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, tour at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium on Saturday.

Wey, who began the evening in 8th place in the overall standings, would add his 9th place San Diego main event points to his season total – giving him 65, which is by far the most points a Factory KTM 450 has ever accumulated in the premier supercross class.

“While we’re pleased with the consistency we’ve had recently (three consecutive top ten finishes), I still think there’s room for a improvement, especially on my behalf,” said Wey. “My MDK/KTM has the speed to be in the top five. It’s up to me to put it on the edge to get it there, and then set our goal for the bike’s first-ever podium finish by the end of the season.”

Wey didn’t pull the ideal start, but managed to stay out of trouble and came around at the end of the first lap in 11th place. From there he was able to get by friend Jason Thomas into the top ten, then moved into 9th position – which he held through the checkers.

“There wasn’t a whole lot of difference between 9th and the top five at San Diego,” said Wey. “Had I gotten a better start I’m confident I could have run at the top five pace. So that’ll be our goal for this weekend in Houston.”

Next up for Wey and the MDK/KTM team is Houston’s Reliant Stadium, Round Seven of 2008 Monster Energy Supercross (Feb. 16).

Also stepping up to back Wey this year, along with MSR and KTM, are a number of high level sponsors including: Spy Optic, Oxtar, Vans and Bell.
