Yamaha of Troy racer just keeps getting better and better as the season progresses, breaks through on podium with 3-3 two-moto finish
CORONA, Calif., (June 18, 2007) – Check out the progression in the first four AMA Outdoor National MX races for Monster Energy-backed Jason Lawrence (Yamaha of Troy): 6th (Hangtown), 5th (High Point), 4th (Southwick) and a career-best 3rd place overall finish this past Sunday at Budds Creek MX Park in Budds Creek, Md.
“I couldn’t have picked a better place to score my first National podium than at Budds,” said Lawrence. “I grew up racing here, had a bunch of friends and family show up and it was just an awesome weekend. I finally pulled some good starts. I’m pumped!”
In both motos Lawrence, who’s been notorious this summer for pulling bad starts and having to charge from behind, got out with the leaders and made his starts stick – coming around in 4th place after the first lap of both motos.
Moto No.1 was highlighted by Lawrence’s pass on High Point National winner Josh Grant on lap four to put him (Lawrence) into 3rd place – a position Lawrence would make stick through the checkers. In the second moto Lawrence again started in 4th place, but would have to make late-race passes on Grant and factory Suzuki racer Ryan Dungey to preserve his podium finish in that moto for 3-3 on the afternoon.
As it stands Lawrence has a solid hold on 5th place overall in the AMA Motocross Lites class standings with 141 points, only five points out of 4th overall (Grant) and nine points away from 3rd overall (Dungey).
Next up for the Monster Energy’s Lawrence is the July 1st Monster Energy/Kawasaki RedBud MX National (Buchanan, Mich.), Round Five of the 2007 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship.
