  • Brock Sellards Returns To Chase Toyota AMA Arenacross Series Championship!

Last year’s Toyota AMA Arenacross Series runner up signed by TUF Racing and begins his quest for the title this weekend in Grand Rapids

AURORA, Ill., (Jan. 4, 2007) – Popular veteran motocross racer Brock Sellards, last year’s Toyota AMA Arenacross Series overall championship runner up – by one point – returns to action this weekend at Grand Rapids’ (Mich.) Van Andel Arena in an effort to avenge last year’s heart-breaking final results.

Sellards, from Sherrodsville, Ohio, became available to the TUF Racing team when he recently learned his 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series deal fell through. Undaunted, the former Outdoor National’s 125cc class runner up (’99) hopped a flight and rode a stock Honda CRF450R to onto the podium both nights at the last round before the holiday break in Reno (Nev.).

“The rest of the team (Danny Smith & Justin Buckelew) is going to Charlotte this weekend, but Brock and I thought we’d run up to Grand Rapids and see what’s going on,” said Dave Antolak, team owner for TUF Racing. “It’d be nice if we could get a couple wins at both rounds this weekend  – I don’t think any team has ever done that.”

Standing in Sellards’ way in Grand Rapids, according to insider reports, could very well be last year’s defending Toyota AMA Arenacross Series champion himself, Chad Johnson. The Rhinelander, Wis., will take a flight over Lake Michigan to make the Grand Rapids race, versus driving to Charlotte.

“This is where the strategy of having two races with equal championship points comes into play,” said Robert Hansen, director of arenacross for Live Nation. “I’m sure there’ll be a lot of interesting discussion in the Internet in the coming days and Monday following the races regarding who’s going where.”

Sellards is currently in 9th place in the overall points despite having missed the Albany (N.Y.) round. With 72 points  he’s only 22 points off the overall podium behind Robbie Reynard, 23 points behind second-place Chad Johnson.
