  • ESPN X Games Dubai 2006 Returns to the Middle East for a Second Year

X Games Exhibition To Take Place December 1-3, 2006

ESPN, Inc. and PepsiCo announced today the return of ESPN X Games Dubai 2006 presented by Mountain Dew to be held in the United Arab Emirates, with an exhibition featuring the world's top action sports athletes.  Since last year's event drew approximately 23,000 action sports enthusiasts, city officials, PepsiCo and ESPN are supporting the event's return.  X Games Dubai is scheduled to be held December 1-3, 2006 in Dubai Creek Park, the United Arab Emirates' second largest park, with free admission.  Performances will be held on the vert ramp with Aggressive In-line Skate, BMX, Skateboard, and The Moto X ramps will be visited by the world's leading riders.  There is a small fee to enter Dubai Creek Park.

Together with Presenting Sponsor, PepsiCo's Mountain Dew brand, the event will also be supported by Official Car Partner Dodge, Electronic Arts "Need For Speed Carbon" and Men's fragrance Hugo Boss Energise.

"The X Games in Dubai last year introduced action sports to a new market which has subsequently grown following the event's huge success," said Jack Wienert, ESPN X Games Executive Director. "This year we are delighted to be staging a second X Games in the United Arab Emirates and believe this event and the X Games franchise will continue to grow."

Athletes scheduled to appear are X Games 12 Skateboard Gold medalist Sandro Dias (Brazil), BMX legend Mat Hoffman (USA), In-line Skate champion Fabiola da Silva (Brazil) and brothers Eito and Takeshi Yasutoko (Japan), the latest Moto X phenomenon's Blake Williams and Cameron Sinclair (Australia) and many more representing England, Spain, Denmark and France.

"In keeping with Mountain Dew's image that reflects the dedication and fitness required for extreme sports, PepsiCo International's continued partnership with ESPN is one that truly expresses the essence of the sport," said Ken Newell, Vice President, PepsiCo Beverages International. "Mountain Dew is a refreshing drinking experience with a pleasingly unconventional taste that invigorates those sports enthusiasts who have an adventurous spirit and an extreme attitude that impels them to continuously push themselves to limits of physical challenges.  We are looking forward to another successful Dubai X Games in December 2006 and bringing the X Games experience to our consumers across the Middle East."

Orbit ESPN, ESPN's affiliate in the region, will carry the best action from Dubai and other X Games events, across the Middle East and North Africa.  Further coverage will be found on a number of other broadcasters in the region. Across Europe, X Games Dubai will be seen on Eurosport, Extreme Channel and a number of other broadcasters such as Five UK, Sport+ France and Sky Italia.  In addition, ESPN will deliver the event across its international networks.
