Cobra Motorcycles Sweep Loretta’s – Again!
Cobra-mounted racers take 1st through 10th in 4-6 AMA 51cc class, clean 1-2-3 sweep of the 51cc 7-8 class podium as well.
HILLSDALE, Mich., (Aug. 9, 2006) – American-made Cobra Motorcycles again stole the spotlight in the highly competitive 51cc classes of the 25th annual Ski Nautique/AMA Amateur National MX Championships this past week and weekend at Loretta Lynn’s ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.
Led by overall 51cc class championships from Sean Cantrell (4-6 class) and Coleman Martin (7-8 class), racers on Cobras were victorious in all six combined motos in the two class, three moto format.
“We couldn’t be happier with the results,” said Cobra President Sean Hilbert. “I’d like to extend a personal congratulation to both Sean and Coleman – and their families – for the overall Loretta’s championships they won this past weekend. And I’d also like to congratulate all of the Cobra-mounted racers that qualified for Loretta’s as well. Great going guys, good luck the rest of the summer with your regional races and we’ll see you in a few months at the Mini O’s!”
Joining Cantrell (Newbury Park, Calif.) on the podium in the 51cc 4-6 class were Hayden Justice (Utica, Ohio) in 2nd and Clay Woeste (Florence, Ky.) in 3rd. Highlighted by Cantrell going 1-1-1 and Justice 2-2-2, Cobra racers swept the top four positions in each of the three motos.
The podium in the 7-8 class was shuffled around a bit when moto 1 and 3 winner, Cobra’s Blake Green (Riverside, Calif.) crashed in the second moto and finished 32nd. Green’s 1-32-1 performance was good enough for 5th overall. Joining Martin (2-2-5) on the podium were Jared Jennings (Port Jervis, N.Y.) in 2nd and the UK’s Ben Watson in 3rd. Jennings went 5-4-2 on the week while Watson, racing in his first-ever Loretta’s, went 7-3-3. Cobra swept all but one of the podium spots (a 3rd in moto 1) in each of the 51cc 7-8 class motos.
Next up for the Cobra racers is the Winter National Olympics, aka the “Mini O’s,” November 20-25 in Gainesville, Fla.
