Washington native goes 1-1 on the afternoon, moves up from 5th to 2nd in the overall AMA Lites class standings – just seven points out of first
CARLSBAD, Calif., (June 19, 2006) – The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team was back on top of the AMA Lites class this past weekend in Budds Creek, Md., as Ryan Villopoto took the checkers at the popular eastern Nationals track, going 1-1 for the overall win.
With his effort Villopoto leapfrogged from 5th place in the overall
standings to 2nd place, just seven points behind series points leader
Mike Alessi (153-146).
Villopoto and Alessi actually got together in the second moto at
Budds Creek – the incident sending Alessi to the ground.
“Mike and I have a history that dates back to amateurs,” said
Villopoto. “And that’s racing.”
Villopoto’s teammate Grant Langston, still dealing with a wrist
injury, was involved in a first moto wreck with Billy Laninovich and
was unable to race the second moto. Langston remained in 9th overall in the points standings.
Stepping it up after Southwick for Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/
Kawasaki was Troy Adams. The fast Flordian banged out a top 15 finish in the first moto, then upped the ante with a top ten (8th) in the
second moto for 12th overall.
The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team returns to action on the 2006 Toyota AMA Motocross Championship in a couple weeks when the tour stops at RedBud (Buchanan, Mich.) for Round Five of the 12 round series . The RedBud stop is also the second of three Monster Energy/Kawasaki Triple Crown of Motocross races.
