  • Rockstar Suzuki’s Mike Brown 8th Overall In AMA Lites Opener

Former AMA Nationals champion opens up AMA Outdoor National Series at Hangtown with solid 8th place finish, ROCKSTAR Suzuki teammate Ryan Mills 11th in MX class

CORONA, Calif., (May 24, 2006) – ROCKSTAR Suzuki’s Mike Brown put up the team’s best numbers of the weekend at the AMA MX Nationals opener, racing to an 8th place overall in the Lites class with a solid 11-8 performance at Hangtown on Sunday.

Brown, a former Nationals champion, actually pulled a mid-pack start (21st) in the second moto and put on an admirable charge in the rain, working all the way back to 8th place.

“I didn’t get very good starts in either moto, the second moto was the worst,” said Brown. “But my bike was running well and I was able to make it back towards the front of the pack – especially in the second moto.”

Brown continued: “It’s always good to get that first race of the season in the books. Last year on was on the podium at Hangtown, so it’s a bit of a letdown. But I was also on the podium the following weekend at High Point (last year) and look forward to working to get back up there this weekend.”

Brown’s ROCKSTAR Suzuki teammate, Ryan Mills, stepped up to the premier class of the Outdoor Nationals in a big way, racing to an 11th place overall finish (10-14) at Hangtown.

“I wasn’t really sure before the race how things would turn out, but I actually felt really comfortable with the new bike and the pace that was being run,” said Mills. “If anything I probably raced a bit conservatively, seeing as how it was my first time out. So I’m looking forward to improving on my result, working to break into the top ten this coming weekend at High Point.”

ROCKSTAR Suzuki athletes, including Mills, Brown, Hamblin and – possibly – Jason Lawrence return to action this weekend for Round Two of the Toyota AMA Motocross Championship at High Point Raceway (Pa., May 28th).
