Unbound Energy-Backed Supercrossers Dominate Dallas Podiums!
Unbound Energy’s Chad Reed wins the overall, while Nick Wey grabs
third overall
CARLSBAD, Calif., (April 24, 2006) – Unbound Energy-backed racers enjoyed their best weekend of the 2006 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series season with Chad Reed (Yamaha) and Nick Wey (MDK Motorsports) going 1-3 overall in the premier class at Dallas’ Texas Stadium.
Reed, who made the main by virtue of a 2nd place finish in the first
heat race, got off to an excellent start in the final race and maintained his speed and consistency throughout and was rewarded with
the win at the end.
“I felt like something was going to go down and right off the get go
it was kind of hectic and crazy,” said Reed of the race lead he took
over when both James Stewart and Ricky Carmichael went down.
“You’ve got three guys that really want to win and, at these
speeds, things are going to happen. I was able to capitalize on some
mistakes.”
With series points leader Carmichael finishing in 6th place, Reed’s
win pulled him to within two points of the championship – a
championship Reed won in 2004.
Wey’s effort for 3rd overall in the premier class was his third
podium of the season, third supercross podium of his career. He made the main with an excellent performance in his heat race (2nd) and pulled the start he wanted to put himself in contention for the
podium spot.
“I got a great start, put my head down and was able to put in some
smooth laps,” said Wey. “I’m stoked to put Unbound up on the
podium again.”
Unbound Energy/Moto XXX’s Kyle Lewis continues his strong comeback from injury earlier in the season. At Dallas Lewis finished a solid 3rd in his semi and raced to a 17th overall in the main event.
Teammate Tim Ferry, who didn’t make the trip to Dallas, is still
tied for 10th place overall (108 points) in the overall AMA
Supercross class standings.
The Unbound Energy-backed racers return to action this weekend in
Seattle when Round 15 of the 2006 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series goes off at Qwest Field on Saturday. Action gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
