Daron Rahlves Bio, Shot At The Washougal, Airs Sunday
NBC camera crews on hand at the '05 NPG-Promoted Washougal MX
National - Rahlves' MX footage from Washougal celebrity race to be used
WASHOUGAL, Wash., (Feb. 10, 2006) - This Sunday U.S. Olympic Downhill
gold medal hopeful - Honda-backed Daron Rahlves - kicks off the first
of two speed events in which he's favored to do well in at the upcoming
Torino Winter Games. Rahlves' first event, the men's downhill -
considered by many to be the premier event of the Olympics - airs
during NBC's prime time Olympics coverage.
In preparing for its coverage of the Olympics, NBC sent a New York
camera crew last summer to interview Rahlves at the Washougal National,
Round Eight of the 2005 AMA Motocross Championship. Rahlves, an avid
motocrosser who is backed by the Honda MX Ambassador program and Fox
Racing, was at Washougal competing in the National Promoters Group's
(NPG) "Scott USA Pro Board Sports MX National" - highlighted by a race
against a number of other pro skiers and snowboarders from that region
during the intermission of Sunday's pro program at Washougal.
"We were looking to capture some of the top Olympic athletes in an area
other than where they're competing during the Torino Games, something
that showed what they enjoy doing outside their given sport - be it on
a mountain or at a hockey rink," said NBC's Scott Boggins, who produced
the Rahlves biography. "The motocross race at Washougal proved to be an
excellent backdrop for Daron's interview and we look forward to hearing
feedback from the motocross industry on what they thought of it."
During part of that interview Rahlves was filmed hanging out and
discussing what it's like to be competitive on the edge, at speed, with
motocross great Ricky Carmichael.
Rahlves' bio is scheduled to air this Sunday, Feb. 12, during NBC's
coverage of the Olympic downhill event in Torino, Italy. The race -
depending on weather conditions - is set to begin at noon (EST) and
will be on NBC's prime time coverage of the Torino Games. Tune into the
up-to-the-minute Olympic coverage on www.nbcolympics.com.
The goal of the NPG is to raise the awareness of motocross through the
production of professional championship racing events. For more
