  • Red Bull X-Fighters Returns to World's Largest Bull Ring

International FMX Stars to Duel Before 42,000 in Mexico City, March 31, 2006

SANTA MONICA, CALIF. (FEB. 6, 2006) -- Red Bull X-Fighters, an international freestyle motocross competition featuring the best riders across the globe, returns to Mexico City, Mexico on Friday, March 31.  A worldly contingent of motoreros representing up to seven countries will attempt to out-trick each other in front of a demanding, sell-out crowd of 42,000 eager fans at the legendary Monumental Plaza de Toros.

Last year at the inaugural event in Mexico City, the sell-out crowd witnessed American Ronnie Renner's amazing, nearly-upside-down whips in his close victory over Jeremy "Twitch" Stenberg.  This year, Renner defends his Mexico City title against another strong field mixed with American veterans Travis Pastrana and Nate Adams, and hungry new-comers, including Mat Rebeaud of Switzerland, who placed second in the Moto X Best Trick at the 2006 Winter X Games.  Mexico's own Johan Nungaray is sure to get the handkerchiefs waving as he represents his home country after a broken wrist kept him out of last year's event.

The battle begins under a night sky, similar to ones that many past bullfighters found glory beneath, with the first round advancing five of the nine riders to the second round where three finalists are chosen. After the intense final round, a new champion will be crowned.

The criteria used throughout the rounds will be the trick's difficulty, the variety of tricks and usage of track, style, overall impression, and the spectator's voice.  Last year, the chainsaw revving and cheers left no doubt about the fan favorite (Renner), so this year their support will be a factor in the results.  An historic meeting ground of man and bull, the spirit of the Monumental Plaza de Toros fuels interaction between the crowd and contenders, and each rider will truly feel the like a hero as they enter the ring.

The second Red Bull X-Fighters for 2006 is scheduled again for Las Ventas in Madrid, Spain on Sept. 14.
