  • Nick Wey Leads Unbound Energy At S.F. SX Mudder

Wey scores first AMA Supercross class podium finish of his career on tough S.F. track

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Jan. 30, 2006) – Unbound Energy Drink-backed Nick Wey of the MDK/MotoSport.com/MSR Honda racing team gave Unbound its fourth-consecutive podium finish in on the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series tour, battling through the mud for a third place overall on Saturday.

With the podium effort – the first of his career in the AMA Supercross class – Wey moved up all the way to fourth place in the overall standings and is the highest non-factory placer after four races.

Wey got to the main event via a semi race after finishing 14th in his opening heat race. The second look at the track proved to be key for Wey, who yanked the Toyota Holeshot in the conditions-shortened 12-lap main event. The Dewitt, Mich., native then held of some of the world’s best riders to capture this third place overall finish.

Still with a strong hold on third place overall in the points (21 points ahead of Wey), is Unbound Energy’s Chad Reed. The Yamaha factory rider and former Supercross champion got out of his heat race in good shape (4th), but the muddy conditions attributed to a fifth overall finish. Look for him to rebound this weekend at Anaheim (Calif.).

For the Unbound-backed Moto XXX team, Tim “Red Dog” Ferry was on the podium in the first AMA Supercross class heat race (3rd) while teammate Kyle Lewis got out of his semi in 5th. Both racers didn’t fair quite as well in the main with Lewis winding up 18th and Ferry 19th.

Unbound Energy-backed racers return to action this weekend when Round Five of the 2006 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series picks back up at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium.

Unbound Energy is available in 16 oz. cans at BP and am/pm retail locations, with more locations and a Sugar-Free Unbound coming soon!
