  • Toyota AMA Arenacross Points Chase Too Close To Call

AMA Arenacross officials say this is closest points chase in “many”  years

AURORA, Ill., (Jan. 26, 2006) – Sporting a precarious points lead that could be erased with the dent of a pipe, flat tire or sprained wrist, Yamaha’s Chad Johnson sits in the 2006 Toyota AMA National Arenacross Series hot seat.

In second place is supercross/motocross legend Brock Sellards (Thor/Honda/TUF Racing). Sellards is so close to Chad Johnson in the points he could literally pick-pocket the lead out of Chad’s trousers.

And then there’s the fastest guy on the tour. Kevin Johnson. The New Mexico native has consistently been the fastest racer, lap time-wise, on the track over the past three races. Two weeks ago he swept Baltimore and has pulled within sight of Sellards.

1.)     Chad Johnson, 302
2.)     Brock Sellards, 285
3.)     Kevin Johnson, 252

“I don’t know what’s happened but the past two weekends have been a swap meet,” said Tim Cotter, Toyota AMA National Arenacross Series race announcer. “Darcy (Lange) and Josh (Demuth) wrapped his titles up early, as did Buddy (Antunez) of course.

“So this is the closest points race we’ve had in the Toyota AMA National Arenacross Series in many years.”

Todd Jendro, senior director of arenacross, Toyota National Arenacross Series, said that one of the reasons the guy’s will be on the pipe big time these next three races (Hampton, Va., Memphis, Tenn., and Denver) will be that brand new Toyota 4x4 truck waiting for one of them at the finish line. This in addition to another bonus for winning the Toyota AMA National Arenacross Series.

“The top five to six guys are really battling hard to get noticed for an Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series 125 Eastern Lites division ride,” said Jendro. “These are the guys that have earned enough AMA National Arenacross points to qualify for a supercross ride. And I’ve already been talking to a number of the team managers that are interested come Feb. 18th in St. Louis when we open the Eastern Lites supercross competition at the Edward Jones Dome.”

The Toyota AMA National Arenacross Series returns this weekend (Jan. 27-29) to the Hampton Coliseum when the world’s top arena-based motocross racers converge on the great state of Virginia for what’s sure to be one heck of a weekend worth of racing action! For more information on the events please visit www.arenacross.com or contact the Hampton Coliseum at (757) 838-4203.

Tickets are available online at www.arenacross.com, www.ticketmaster.com, www.tickets.com. For more information on the Toyota AMA National Arenacross Series log on to www.arenacross.com.
