Scott Lukaitis captures last weekend's KROC.
Marissa Markelon’s 1-1 moto scores earned her the overall victory at the KROC round of the WMX championship series. The victory gave her the points lead with only two rounds remaining. Scott Lukaitis Kylie Fasnacht kept Markelon honest during both WMX motos. The Suzuki-mounted racer was second in both motos and second overall. Fasnacht is now third overall in the points standings. Scott Lukaitis Franklin Nogueras had the largest and loudest cheering section in the stands, and he gave them something to cheer about. 5-2 moto scores earned him third overall in the Open class. Scott Lukaitis Two-stroke mounted Jacqueline Strong was making her first appearance in the WMX series this season. Third place in both motos earned her a third place overall. Scott Lukaitis Following good rides this summer at the AMA Nationals, Joey Peters was another racer looking to prove something at KROC. His 4-1 moto scores earned him the Open class overall victory. Scott Lukaitis After strong results in Canada this summer, local racer Jesse Pierce came to KROC looking to score top results. He did just that, taking the Best Whip win on Friday night, third overall in the 250 class on Sunday, and second overall in the 450 class on Sunday. Scott Lukaitis Brandon Hartranft was the big amateur class winner for the weekend. Not only did he take the win in the Open Amateur class, but he was also the winner of Sunday’s Ironman Classic moto and with it the grand prize of a new Kawasaki. Scott Lukaitis The Kessler family has a long history of racing at the Race of Champions and Raceway Park. In the 70s and 80s, it was Mickey Kessler taking the wins, and now in 2014 it was Mickey’s son Dakota. A fifth overall in the Open class was backed up with two strong moto wins in the 250 class and the overall win. Scott Lukaitis Hannah Hodges was on the gas at KROC. She finished second in the Women’s 14+ class and took the win in the Girls 9-15 class. Scott Lukaitis Butler, Pennsylvania's Dylan Slusser battled Kessler in the second 250 moto, eventually settling in for second place. This result, coupled with a first moto fourth, earned Slusser second overall. Scott Lukaitis Chase Fasnacht was the top minibike racer for the weekend. He took the victory in the 85cc 12-15 class on Saturday and won the Top Gun Mini Cycle Shootout during Sunday’s afternoon. Scott Lukaitis Saturday’s rains were especially difficult for the youngest racers, but Kyle Born proved he could ride in all conditions on the way to winning the 50cc 4-6 class. Scott Lukaitis Heavy rains Friday night and Saturday morning turned the track into a mess for the first part of Saturday’s racing. Gage Solis used his mud riding skills to take both the 250 Novice and Open Novice overall victories. Scott Lukaitis Kawasaki-mounted Scott Sheak was a triple class winner at the Race of Champions.
