Dowd To Race for Abbott
Irvine, Calif. (May 11, 2010) - Motocross legend and Kawasaki privateer John Dowd will fill in for the injured Destry Abbott during the fifth round of the WORCS series at Honey Lake MX in Milford, Calif. Abbott broke his collarbone on April 25 during an AMA Hare and Hound race and will be sitting out the race in Northern California.
"It will be fun having a seasoned motocross rider such as Dowd making the cross over to the WORCS series," said Jason Smigel, off-road supervisor. "Dowd is a very respected rider and I think he will do well in his first experience with WORCS racing."
The Massachusetts native Dowd started racing motocross at age 20 and continues to let his passion for racing keep him competitive over 20 years later, earning third last year at the AMA Motocross race at MX 338 in Southwick, Mass. His off-road background includes tackling two GNCC races and most recently competing in the endurocross portion of the Montreal Supercross last year.
"It should be fun and I'm looking forward to the experience," said Dowd. "Other than the two GNCCs, I haven't done too much off-road. That was an eye opener. These guys are really good at what they do. I just want to ride well and make it through, all while having a little fun."
