  • DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha - Vegas

Las Vegas, NV - The AMA Supercross series rolled into Sam Boyd stadium for the final round of 2010 and to close out the season in style with some epic racing action before 39k plus amped up fans. DNA Shred Stix 7/Star Racing/Yamaha came equipped with our three standout riders for the Dave Coombs East/West shootout. #20 Broc Tickle, #48 Max Anstie, and #577 Martin Davalos all had a big task in front of them as they were set to do battle with the Top 20 riders from each region. Pre-qualifying went fairly well, with all the Star boys keeping themselves in the mix of combined times between both east and west, fastest being Tickle in 4th and Davalos taking 6th.
The highly anticipated Lites east Heat got underway first in a positive way. Once out of the gate, Davalos was able to avoid any first lap carnage, in doing so he put his YZ 250F in the 2nd position. At times nearly battling for the lead, Davalos was able to ride out the sprint race and finish up in 2nd. In the qualifying Heat for the west, Tickle and Anstie both grabbed less than stellar starts to get things going. On lap three Tickle was on a fight towards the front, but an aggressive move combined with the slick soil sent him to the dirt. Unfortunately for Anstie time ran out, after struggling with track all day, Max kept forging upward. However he’d only rebound to an eventual 10th place finish, while Tickle stayed in tow coming away with 13th.
The LCQ blitzed out of the gate, with both Star riders circling the track upfront where it was crucial to be. Riding at the edge to make the main, Tickle assumed the lead on lap one while Anstie found himself in a three way battle for second. With one lap remaining, a race amongst three riders ensued with Anstie in 4th and needing that coveted second place transfer position. Digging deep, a few small mistakes relegated Anstie, to come away being two spots short of making the main. While Tickle took a deep breath knowing he was in the main event, he knew it was going to be even tougher with such a bad gate pick.
Main event time came, and with that the final try in 2010 to turn some heads was upon us, on lap one Tickle sat 12th, while Davalos held 16th. In the first half of the race, Tickle was struggling, leaving him to dig deeper to achieve any sort of good result. However, Davalos kept putting fast laps down and pulled up to the 10th spot and hung tough while dicing it out all the way through lap seven. In the meantime, Tickle finally took his speed on the track to a higher level and raced forward making substantial gains. On lap eight he overtook his teammate for 7th, pushing Davalos back to 8th who seemed to have lost his forward momentum. With the closing laps in progress, Tickle had nailed down the 6th position, and Davalos rebounded to 7th on the last lap making a good outcome to all the struggles they both incurred during the 15 lap race.
Star Racing thanks all these key backers for their quality service that helped make the 2010 Supercross season a success.
