  • Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer Stays on the Podium in San Francisco
Corona, Calif. -- Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer grabbed his fourth straight podium finishing runner-up at AT&T Park in San Francisco. After winning the first three races of the season, Weimer build a solid points cushion and with Saturday’s second place finish Weimer holds a 16 point lead in the championship standings. Weimer’s teammate Josh Hansen finished seventh after working his way up from last place on the first lap.

Rain during the week meant the dirt inside the stadium was soft adding a level of difficulty to the track. Even though the weather on Saturday was clear, if a little chilly, there schedule was cut short giving both Hansen and Weimer only one timed practice session. During the ten minutes, Hansen posted the fastest lap while Weimer rode the fourth fastest lap.

In the first heat race, Weimer jumped out to the holeshot and checked out from the rest of the field winning by more than eight seconds. In the second heat, Hansen got through the first turn near the front and stayed with the leader throughout the six-lap race finishing second.

In the main event Hansen was the first rider to the first turn, but unfortunately he was going to fast and he wasn’t able to stay on the track. While Hanny was looking for a place to get back on track, Weimer was near the front stalking the leader. When Hanny got back in the race, he was sitting shotgun to the field. For the next 10 laps he steadily worked his way up through the pack, pretty much passing at least one rider every lap. Hansen eventually made his way up to seventh where he would take the checkered flag.

“San Francisco has been getting some rain and the dew was coming up through the dirt making it really slick,” said Hansen. “I went into the first corner a little hot and went right off the track. That kind of ruined my race. I couldn’t get back on the track for a while so I was last when I did. I have a really good opportunity here, said Hansen. I want to take full advantage of it. Even if I’m back, I want to ride as best as I can in every race and do the best I can do.”

Back up at the front, Weimer was making his move to get to the lead, when he landed on a tuff block just past the finish line. The miscue bent Weimer’s shift lever, but he was able to keep pace and hold on for second place.

“Getting a perfect season wasn’t one of my personal goals,” said Weimer. “We had some conversations, but nothing serious. It would have been cool if it would have happened, but that’s not why I’m bummed. The only reason I’m bummed is I hate losing and I didn’t win tonight.”

The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team now is looking ahead to going to Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego with Weimer working to get back on the top step of the podium and Hansen looking to get his first podium of the season.
