Progressive Returns as the Official Holeshot Sponsor

  • Progressive Returns as the Official Holeshot Sponsor

AURORA, Ill. (December 27, 2007) – Live Nation Motor Sports, Inc., announced today that Progressive, the nation’s largest motorcycle and third largest car insurance group, will return as the official sponsor of the holeshot award for the 2008 Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, the world’s premier off-road motorcycle racing series. This is Progressive’s third consecutive year as the holeshot sponsor.

“Supercross gives Progressive the opportunity to connect with fans who own a variety of products we insure - cars, motorcycles, dirt bikes, and trucks, to name a few - and the chance to support an exciting sport”, said Amanda Jones, Progressive's associate brand manager.  “Rewarding the rider who gets the early lead, or Holeshot, in the main event is a perfect fit for Progressive, since we've been leading the way in insurance innovation for years.”

Progressive will award prize money to the riders who get the holeshot—or early lead—in the main event of each race. At each race a pre-determined line is chalked out near the exit of the first turn, marking the official Progressive Holeshot Award. As part of the sponsorship, Progressive will be the Official Insurance of Monster Energy® Supercross; the agreement also includes prominent on-track signage, on-site and Internet promotions, giveaways and broadcast exposure.

Last year Chris Gosselaar and Ben Townley led the AMA Supercross Lites divison in Progressive Holeshot Awards with three. Gosselaar earned holeshots at San Francisco, San Diego and Seattle while riding in the western region. Townley earned holeshots in St. Louis, Dallas and Las Vegas in the east region. Each riders were awarded $3,000 in Progressive holeshot money.

AMA Supercross class runner-up Chad Reed led the field with six Progressive Holeshot Awards, Anaheim 1, San Francisco, Atlanta, St. Louis, Orlando and Indianapolis, earning him $9,000.

The 2008 Monster Energy® Supercross season begins January 5, 2008 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., and will be broadcast on CBS Sports and SPEED
