  • Jeff Dement Injury Update

We just got the following update from the crew at Racer X Canada:

We caught up with Jeff Dement today to see how he's been doing, recovering at home in Houston, Texas. Jeff told us it's his 32nd birthday today, so first off Happy Birthday Jeff! As Jeff explained, he is well on the road to recovery and is just starting to come out of the fog from his concussion. He's already talking about getting healthy and racing again. Here are a few words from Jeff on his Calgary injury.

“We checked up with two doctors here in Houston, and everything with regards to the healing process is going well. There's the head injury—it was a severe concussion—and the main concern was the fact that I had bleeding on the liver and some internal injuries. Obviously, for the initial injury part, I was out of it, I didn’t know what was going on, but now that I can think straight, I can realize that it was a little more serious than anticipated. But, with that being said, they say that normally a grade 3 concussion takes six to eight weeks before the fog goes away and I have noticed that it’s better. They have me going for walks and I am able to go further without getting nauseated or dizzy. Things are getting better, day by day.  Thanks to Andy White and his team, they really surprised me with how to down to earth they were and how much they cared, they were so professional, and it made me feel good to be a part of their organization.  I don’t remember it but it was kind of a bad luck issue, it wasn’t my fault, I guess I was landed on, but that’s motorsport, everytime you line up, you take that risk. I was just really happy to be back and racing again, but now it looks like I am going to have to take a little break again but we’ll be back. It’s really tough, especially as a racer, I just want to be out there right now, but it’s one of those things where I just have to be smart and let the time pass until I am 100 percent and then I’ll be back. That’s the plan.”

Also, thanks from Jeff and the crew here at RXC for all the emails and letters you sent to Jeff. He got them all and he said that they really helped him along the way.
