  • Michael Mosiman on Star Racing: “Things are looking better and better for me to stay there”
Buchanan, MI RedBudAMA Pro Motocross Championship

Michael Mosiman has been honest lately about not having a contract signed yet for 2026. The Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider would like to stay with the team for a third consecutive year next season, but nothing is set it stone yet. The California native has finishes of 8-10-14-15-4-3 so far this summer through six rounds of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, racing the outdoor series for the first since an injury in June 2023. Despite his rebuilding, some crashes, and a few bike issues, the #93 machine has been the second-best rider on the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team this summer behind championship leader Haiden Deegan.

At the RedBud National, Mosiman’s consistent 4-4 finishes made him third overall on the day—his first Pro Motocross podium in nearly four years. Afterwards, he made a hint that he could be returning to the factory Yamaha team next year, saying: “Things are looking better and better for me to stay there.”

In an interview with Mosiman after last week’s Southwick National, he told me team owner Bobby Regan told him he should retire…twice this summer! He clarified the comments during the post-race press conference after RedBud.

“That was a few weeks ago,” Mosiman said. “He's, yeah, we're on fine terms. Bobby and I…I enjoy hanging out with him and spending time with him, so, yeah, I think that things are looking better and better for me to stay there. You know, the more I perform. So, that's exciting. But obviously, looking at looking at my options… I got to keep options open because it's certainly not a done deal. And, yeah, he told me, I need to go out and perform. And I said, ‘That's pretty much what I understood.’ You know, that's how this works. [Laughs] So, yeah, I've been performing and just trying to ride with a level head and put in consistent, solid rides. And try not to overreach. And it's been working for me. So, I'm going to continue that and hopefully end up back there next year.”

“Yeah, they want to see me prove it,” he continued. “They want to see me be consistent. I mean, they're a top team, and they want people who they can count on for championships. And they want me to be consistent podium guy and show that they can count on me, show that I'm competitive. I'm ready to fight for wins. And so, it's a fine time right now for me. It's I've been on this plan to build, build, build, build, build. And, you know, part of that means that I'm...I wasn't as good as I am now during the early bit of supercross. I wasn't as good as I am now during the early bit outdoors. And there has been a lot, a lot, a lot of testing and development. I think that I took the bike in a bit of a different direction than a lot of the other guys, and yeah. And so I think, yeah, it's just about building and now they're seeing the results and they're seeing the plan come together. And I think that you know, a few months ago they weren't seeing it. So, yeah, stoked.”

Mosiman said he has been getting some calls for opportunities for next year.
