  • RJ Hampshire, Cameron McAdoo Cleared to Ride Again, Return to Racing TBD
Mechanicsville, MD Budds CreekAMA Pro Motocross Championship

The good news is RJ Hampshire and Cameron McAdoo are both back riding again. The bad news is there is not yet a hard date set for either to return to racing. Hampshire, the 2024 250SX West Region Monster Energy AMA Supercross Champion, was hoping to carry his title momentum into the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, but he injured his wrist in the Thursday media ride day ahead of the motocross opener. According to his Instagram, he hit a large rock in a high-speed section that caused him to crash hard, injuring his wrist.

The gritty rider was hoping for a miracle and return to racing at the RedBud National in early July, but that was not the case as his Perilunate dislocation and fractured scaphoid had not yet fully healed. Hampshire was looking at a return to racing at the Unadilla National, but he’s not ready to get back at behind the gates just yet. He is back riding but needs to “take it day by day” to see when he can return. He’ll sit the weekend out and assess how he feels coming into the Budds Creek National next weekend. At the moment, Hampshire sits 14th in the 250SMX SuperMotocross World Championship standings, inside that top 20 cutoff to not have to race all three last chance qualifier races (top 30 250SMX standings below). Below is his full update.

“GOOD NEWS!
Got clearance from the doc to get back racing. The first few days back on the bike have not been great, I’ll be honest. I’ve been able to talk myself out of pain a lot in my career but this little bone was not listening 😂
There’s been progress the last couple days so we are getting close. I’m not ready to go racing this weekend but will take it day by day to see if I can be worth something before SMX starts!
See you guys soon 👊🏼👍🏼”

McAdoo suffered a shoulder injury ahead of Pro Motocross and has yet to race this summer. In mid-July, McAdoo posted the following update:

"Quick update! I had some scans done this week and the shoulder is getting close to being 100%. I am hoping to be back on the bike in the next few weeks which feels like it can’t come soon enough. As always thank you all for the continued support as we get this thing back on track. See everyone soon!"

In a Wednesday evening press release, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team manager Iain Southwell said, "On another note, Cameron isn’t too far away from getting back on a bike."

Then today (Thursday), McAdoo posted earlier today he was back riding again. McAdoo sits 22nd in 250SMX standings after 25 rounds, with 120 points as he will more than likely remain in the top 30 to qualify for the LCQ races.
