  • 2020 Monster Energy Cup Canceled Due to COVID-19

As expected, Feld Entertainment has announced the 2020 Monster Energy Cup has been canceled. The non-points paying race was set for October 10, 2020, in Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, but the ever-changing COVID-19 situation has now impacted the event. Specifically, Feld Entertainment says they have run into problems securing a facility with other sports leagues starting back up.

The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship is currently scheduled to run through October 10, but that didn't impact the Monster Energy Cup date. Internally it already seemed likely that the Monster Energy Cup would not take place on the originally-scheduled October 10 date anyway.

At the 2019 Monster Energy Cup, 450SX rookie Adam Cianciarulo won the overall with 2-2-1 finishes . His new teammate (and 2018 Monster Energy Cup champion) finished second with 1-3-2 moto finishes and SmarTop/Bullfrog Spas/MotoConcepts Honda’s Malcolm Stewart finished third with 3-1-3 moto finishes.

The 2019 event was the last Monster Energy Cup set in Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Carson, California location has been impacted due to COVID-19.

Here is the statement on the Supercross Instagram page:

Unfortunately, the @MonsterEnergy Cup that has been scheduled for October 10 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, CA will not be feasible this year, due to other leagues starting their seasons and the difficulty of securing an appropriate location to host the event in the fall. In conjunction with the Monster Energy Cup, the 2020 Supercross Futures National AMA Championship will also be cancelled.

Below is the full statement from Feld Entertainment, sent out at 2:30 p.m. ET:

Monster Energy Supercross was the first pro sport to successfully complete the 2020 season with an adjusted schedule this year. The goal was to bring live racing to fans and crown three new champions in a safe environment. Without fans in attendance for the final 7 races, Supercross continued to have a strong presence on both TV and digital platforms. Viewership was up 29% in 2020 and Supercross was one of the most popular programs on NBCSN in the first quarter. Over 2.4 million fans visited SupercrossLIVE, while over 5.5 million people followed a Supercross social platform generating over 18.8 million social engagements during the season.

Feld Motor Sports continues to look towards the future for Supercross fans and its athletes and is eager for next season. Unfortunately, the Monster Energy Cup that had been scheduled for October 10 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, CA will not be feasible this year, due to other leagues starting their seasons and the difficulty of securing an appropriate location to host the event in the fall. In conjunction with the Monster Energy Cup, the 2020 Supercross Futures AMA National Championship will also be cancelled.

Ticket Information:

For fans that purchased tickets via AXS online or by phone, a refund will automatically be issued to the credit card used to make the purchase. Otherwise, refunds are available at the original point of purchase.

We value you as a fan and appreciate your patience and understanding. Please visit SupercrossLIVE for updates regarding the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross schedule.
