SANTA MONICA, CALIF. – Red Bull Straight Rhythm has unveiled the one-of-a-kind unwound track for the competition taking place at Auto Club Raceway at Fairplex in Pomona on Saturday, October 4. The event will pit 32 of the world’s best riders against each other in a head-to-head, best-of-three bracket format on a track sure to test riders’ mental toughness and bike control. At just over 2,900 feet long – twice the length of a supercross track – and built from 10,000 cubic yards of dirt, the linear track’s design with 80 jumps will likely have riders spending more time airborne than on the ground. All tickets are general admission and cost $20, and parking passes can also be purchased ahead of time for $10. Both can be purchased at www.redbull.com/straightrhythm
The event will feature a live webcast on www.redbull.com/straightrhythm as well.
Red Bull Straight Rhythm Track Stats:
· 10,000 cubic yards of dirt
· 1,000 semi truck loads of dirt
· 80 total jumps
· 300 feet of whoops
· Highest jump: 10 feet high
· Longest jump: 90 feet, peak-to-peak
· Three weeks to construct
Riders will need to navigate five back-to-back tabletop sections – a first in motocross competition - and three types of whoops section, including wave whoops, 12 regular whoops and sand whoops. In order to control the riders’ speed through a track with no turns to slow them down, four speed checks - 10ft or 12ft high obstacles - were added to control momentum. Red Bull Straight Rhythm will present a formidable test for some of the world’s top riders, including Travis Pastrana, Ryan Dungey, James Stewart, Brett Metcalfe, Dean Wilson, and more as they must focus exclusively on reading the terrain directly in front of them and correctly judging their speed for precise distance and control.
“Although it doesn’t have the turns we are used to, it’s ultimately more terrain than a regular supercross track, and in some respects presents a tougher challenge with the number of obstacles,” said two-time AMA Supercross and 2012 AMA Motocross Champion, Ryan Dungey. “It’s all about rhythm and not making an error, so I think a lot of us are excited to see whose style works best on this track.”
Red Bull Straight Rhythm will be webcast live at 2:30pm PST on Saturday, October 4th via the Red Bull TV player on Redbull.com/Straight Rhythm. Accessible via the web and its Android and iOS applications, Red Bull TV is also available pre-installed channel on Samsung Smart TVs and Apple TV and as a free, downloadable app on Amazon Fire TV, Kindle Fire and XBox 360 devices so viewers can watch with Red Bull Straight Rhythm on the go or from any screen in the house. This one-of-its-kind competition is part of the Red Bull Signature Series, the most progressive collection of action sports events in the world. As part of the series, a full length broadcast of Red Bull Straight Rhythm airs Saturday, Dec. 20th at 4 pm ET on NBC.
Auto Club Raceway at Pomona is the oldest and most well known venue on the NHRA drag racing series circuit. Built in 1951, it was opened as a way to encourage street racers to compete safely, and was built through the combined efforts of the Pomona Valley Timing Association, Pomona Police Chief Ralph Parker and the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds. In 1992, Auto Club Raceway entered the final phases of a $4.5-million modernization project, which included the installation of permanent grandstand seats that can accommodate up to 40,000 fans.
