Earlier this week, we received an email in regards to the Chris Michels Benefit Ride. Chris, a life-long moto enthusiast, recently crashed and was paralyzed below the waist. His family and friends will be holding a benefit ride at Sunset Ridge MX in Walnut, Illinois on September 13 to help raise money for his injuries. Details are below.
On the afternoon of Friday, June 6 2014, Chris Michels (loving husband, good friend and D16/17 motocross hero) was in a life-threating accident while doing what he loved most … riding his dirt bike. Chris was air lifted to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was quickly treated for spinal injuries. When the dust settled Chris was left with two fractured vertebrae (T11 & T12), a dislocated spinal column, fractured right clavicle & four broken ribs. Six hours of surgery and six rods later Chris was stabilized, but unfortunately left with total paralysis below the waist. Chris remains in good spirits and is demonstrating tremendous mental strength, but is fully aware that it’s going to be a long road to recovery.
In efforts to help raise money for Chris and his amazing wife Jessica, we are turning to the incredibly powerful and ever supportive Moto community. Chris has been there for others over the years, and now it’s time for all of us to be there for him. That being said there will be a “CHRIS MICHELS BENEFIT RIDE DAY” at Sunset Ridge MX track on Saturday September 13. Details are as follows:
Where: Sunset Ridge MX (Walnut, Illinois)
When: Saturday September 13, 2014 … gates open at 8:30am (weather permitting)
Who: Friends, family & the entire local MX community are all welcome [SPREAD THE WORD]
Cost: $30-$25 gate fee and $5 for “Team Mich” fender sticker. Note – all proceeds go to Chris!!!
In addition:
- Food & drink – available at Sunset Ridge MX concession stand (hamburgers, hot dogs, etc.). A percentage of the proceeds will also go to Chris & Jessica
- Auction – tons of Moto swag (i.e. gear, accessories, apparel, signed pro jerseys) and much more will be auctioned off mid-day. Bring your wallet…. You won’t want to miss out on this one J
