RCSX Returns to Daytona Bike Week

  • RCSX Returns to Daytona Bike Week
MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- The 5th Annual Monster Energy Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross once again returns to Daytona International Speedway in 2014 for the biggest two-day amateur supercross event on the planet. Following Saturday night's Daytona Supercross by Honda, amateur racing kicks off Sunday, March 9 and continues on Monday, March 10, offering classes for racers of all ages and skill levels.

"It's hard to believe that we're approaching our fifth year of amateur supercross on the storied grounds of Daytona International Speedway," said Tim Cotter, director of MX Sports. "With the help of 15-Time Champion Ricky Carmichael, we've built a supercross track that is suitable for all ages and skill levels, while offering that historic element of competing on the same course that the best athletes in the world competed on the night before."

With nearly 1,000 entries last year, RCSX will once again offer two full days of amateur racing-featuring longer laps and practice time, with more class options to give racers even more track-time over the course of the weekend. Due to the expansion of racing, Ricky Carmichael University will not take place in Daytona this year.

"Daytona International Speedway is like home to me and I couldn't be happier to return for a fifth year of RCSX," said 15-Time Champion, Ricky Carmichael. "The two-day racing format has been a great addition to the event and we're looking forward to another exciting year of racing in 2014."

MX Sports organizes the event by utilizing over 30 years of experience operating the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL at the Loretta Lynn Ranch. The class structure includes classes for youth riders on 50cc bikes all the way up to vet and senior classes. The race will follow a supercross format, using heat races and last chance qualifiers to seed the field of riders into a main event in each class, over the course of two days. Unlike the Loretta Lynn's format, riders do not need to qualify at other races in order to participate in the Daytona event.

Amateur riders and their families are encouraged to come down early and camp on the Daytona infield, where hookups are available. Move in, sign up and camping begin on Saturday, March 8, so amateur families can watch the pros compete on Saturday night in the Daytona Supercross, as each rider's entry comes with a ticket to the Daytona Supercross by Honda. Amateur racing takes place on Sunday, March 9 and Monday, March 10.
