450SX
- Three title combatants entered the octagon in Salt Lake City, with Ryan Villopoto left standing following a title fight for the ages. Davi Millsaps and Ryan Dungey left everything on the table, but in the end, Villopoto withstood the pressure to capture the win and his third consecutive 450SX title. The champ also set the fastest lap of the night with a 46.866 on lap 4.
- We see this from time to time, mainly because lap times are calculated beginning on lap 2 rather than lap 1, but the race winner, RV, did NOT set the fastest average lap time. That honor belonged to Millsaps who set an average lap time of 47.626 to RV’s 47.679. Once again, we see two riders with average lap times matched into the tenths of a second. That’s unreal!
- Millsaps’, Villopoto’s and Dungey’s average lap times—all three under 48 seconds—were faster than every riders’ (excluding Justin Barcia and Trey Canard) fastest lap of the night. In the past, we’ve seen one rider achieve the feat, but to see three riders do so really speaks volumes to the level the lead trio reached in SLC.
- Continuing on the DM, RV, RD theme, Millsaps and Villopoto did not have a lap over 49 seconds. Dungey was right behind with only one lap (lap 20) in the 49-second range.
- Canard, who rode to a very quiet fourth, was on the pace early, setting his first seven laps under 48 seconds. That feat was only topped by Millsaps and Villopoto, who set their first nine laps under 48 seconds.
- The latest fastest lap of the night belonged to Chad Reed, who set a 49.434 on lap number 9.
- THREE: Numbers of riders (Millsaps, Dungey and Villopoto) to set their fastest lap of the night in the 46-second range.

Let’s break this down BY THE NUMBERS:
First nine laps (2-10)
Davi Millsaps and Ryan Dungey each had the fastest lap on track four different times in the first half of the race. Surprisingly, Ryan Villopoto only garnered one fastest lap—lap four. But that was the fastest lap set all night.
The fastest average lap during this stretch came down to just a few thousandths of a second. Again, only a few thousandths of a second! Millsaps’ 47.269 edged Villopoto’s 47.291, with Dungey coming in at a 47.422.
Last ten laps (11-20)Millsaps had the most fast laps down the stretch, with four of the fastest laps set. Dungey and RV tied with three each.
Millsaps once again set the fastest average lap—and was the only one to have an average in the 47s with a 47.947. RV was next with a 48.028, with Dungey taking a 48.116.
Davi Millsaps set the fastest average lap time of the night in Salt Lake City.

250SX
- Jason Anderson was on rails early en route to his first career 250SX win, as his 47.971 was the fastest lap in 250SX. He was the only 250 rider to set a fast lap in the 47s.
- Eli Tomac’s struggles in SLC have been well documented, and the lap times showed even further proof. Tomac didn’t set one lap under 50 seconds; while this entire group of riders had at least one lap under 50 seconds: Anderson, Cole Seely, Martin Davalos, Malcolm Stewart, Kyle Cunningham, Christian Craig, Ryan Sipes and Travis Baker.
- Anderson's first four laps were all under 49 seconds—the longest stretch in 250SX.
- The latest fastest lap of the night belonged to Zach Osborne, who set a 50.258 on lap 11.
-Martin Davalos also had a nice run going early, setting his first 11 laps under 50 seconds.
- Cole Seely, who finished one spot ahead of Davalos in second, set a rapid pace early as well, setting 7 of his first 8 laps under 50 seconds.
Jason Anderson set the fasest lap of the night in 250SX.
