Introducing the Rockstar Energy Fastest Lap

MORGANTOWN, WV - After witnessing their riders Chad Reed and Ryan Dungey sweep the 450 and 250 class championships in 2009, Rockstar Energy took the next step in becoming the newest member of the American motocross family. To welcome the new Official Energy Drink of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, MX Sports Pro Racing and Alli Sports introduce the Rockstar Energy Fastest Lap competition for the 2010 season.

In an effort to make things a little sweeter for the world's best riders, who lay it on the line each and every weekend, the Rockstar Energy Fastest Lap will put the spotlight on the fastest competitors from the 450 Class at each of the 12 rounds this summer. In the second 450 moto of each race, premier class riders will have extra incentive to lay down the fastest lap possible in an effort to get a leg up on the competition as the season moves forward.

Beginning at the Rockstar Energy Hangtown Classic on Saturday, May 22, points will be accumulated over three and a half months by the quickest riders on any given lap. Both NBC Sports and SPEED will keep the fans up to date on the hot-lap stats. Whenever a new rider tops the chart, he will earn a point (though only a single point is on the line at each round for any given rider). That means strategy can play a significant role in minimizing a competitor's total by simply logging as many fast laps as possible, preventing anyone else from topping the leaderboard.

"We wanted to spice things up a little bit for the riders out on the track," says Rockstar Energy's Mike Kelso. "The added incentive to run a hot lap should produce some of the fastest times we've ever seen at the track and hopefully becomes a strategic tool in the outcome of each race. We can't think of a better way to show our commitment to this series.

As the checkered flag falls on the season finale from Pala Raceway on Saturday, September 11, the top three overall Rockstar Energy Fastest Lap riders will receive exclusive signature Rockwell Watches. First-place will receive a black and diamond 50mm signature watch while the runner-up will be awarded with a sapphire-coated crystal black 50mm timepiece. Third place will receive a watch from the sapphire-coated crystal black Rook series.

The Rockstar Energy Fastest Lap begins this weekend at the renowned Prairie City SVRA Park in Rancho Cordova, Calif., on May 22. The event will air on SPEED.
