Dragon Racing Fuels Jacksonville Supercross Recap
April 8, 2010 12:06pm
The last time that Team Dragon Racing Fuels – 1-866-KTM-PART pulled into the great state of Florida, the results were not exactly how they planned. Coming off of the Team’s first top ten finish, the spirits were high. Chuck Newton, president of Newton Oil Company and parent company of Dragon Racing Fuels flew to Jacksonville with his wife to follow the success that his product is producing. While doing the track walk with his riders he was quick to state “It is amazing to see the intricacy of the obstacles that these athletes must deal with week in and week out. The talent at this level is incredible”. Fortunately, these athletes have a fuel that gives them the ability to not only attack these obstacles but more important, attack with great success!
As the riders lined up for Heat One, the number 64 of Taylor Futrell lined up on the inside of the dog house. As the gate dropped, Taylor jaunted towards the Spike Holeshot and coming around in 8th place, he continued to push his bike for a 7th place finish and a spot for the Main Event.
In Heat Two, Tevin Tapia lined up looking for an opening in the first turn, something he couldn’t find the weekend previous in Dallas, Texas. As the gate dropped, Tevin found himself with a handful of throttle and a lot of clean air in front of him. Tevin pulled his Team Dragon Racing Fuels – 1-866-KTM-PART motorcycle out with the transfer spot contenders in 7th place. Tevin rode a totally consistent race to finish in eighth place and a gate pick for the Main.
Taylor Futrell and Tevin Tapia finished their parade lap and took their respected spots in the gates for the beginning of the Main Event. The 30 second board turned sideways and the riders stared for the drop of the gate. The gate dropped sending the twenty riders in a group towards the first turn. All twenty came through the first turn cleanly and Taylor and Tevin found themselves in 12th and 14th as they attacked the first lap of the 15 lap Main. The two rider’s racked lap after lap on a truly technical track that never really allowed for great passing and unfortunately was taking down riders left and right. As they passed through the checkers on lap 15, Taylor found himself one spot out of the top ten and Tevin flew over in 13th overall.
