DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha - Anaheim 3
February 16, 2010, 8:33pm
The AMA Supercross Series visited Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Ca on a very bright and sunny day for the third and last time this season. In front of 34,227 fans DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Broc Tickle #20 and Max Anstie #48 came in optimistic, upbeat, all the while knowing they had good chances of stepping on to the podium. Preliminary action got underway in good fashion as Tickle stood high up in the charts at 2nd and the rookie Anstie clocked the 7th fastest Timed-qualifying lap.
The gate dropped for the first Heat race, seeing Tickle mired deep in the field. However, the combination of avoiding any carnage and making some quick moves allowed the FMF backed rider to ease just inside the top ten. For the next five laps, Broc laid down some of the fastest times and climbed to 3rd by the races conclusion. Up next in Heat race two, Anstie got out front with the two title contenders with one lap down. For the next two laps Anstie showed why his future will be bright, as he rode the wheels of Weimer and Canard. With the three of them breaking away, Max was content at this point to watch and learn from these top riders. Unfortunately, while skimming up a fast stair case jump, Anstie’s front wheel just missed clipping the top, which is very important. Now sent into an endo, Anstie cased the next single with his front wheel, leaving him to be pile drived into the ground in a horrific fashion. After being transported to the hospital, amazingly nothing serious was suffered and it has been determined that Max has a fractured hip and the prognosis is good.
Taking top honors and once again riding exceptionally well on the night was Broc Tickle. Moving to the Main Event, Tickle rocketed out to the front and held pace with the leaders. Running in 4th for the first three laps, Broc made sure he was in contention. Lap four Tickle was showing nothing short of a podium was acceptable, and with a little luck he was able to move into 2nd all at once. Now looking ahead, Tickle would continue to hang tough throughout the majority of the race and attempt to pick his way closer to the leader. Never willing to settle, Tickle never backed it down to try capture a win, but he would have to wait for another night and take a career best 2nd place.
