AMA AX Heads to Tulsa

AURORA, Ill. – A new face graced the top step of the podium for just the third time in the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series and as the series continues its foray to the Midwest this weekend from Tulsa’s BOK Center, Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLube Kawasaki has set the bar for all opponents.

While Babbitt’s rider and series points leader Tyler Bowers brought his five-race winning streak into last Saturday’s race from Kansas City’s Kemper Arena, he could not avoid the bite of bad luck and suffered his worst outing of the young 2010 season when his front brake line was severed during contact off the start. He survived for an eighth-place finish.

Bowers’ teammate Josh Demuth was able to take advantage of his colleague’s woes to win his first race of the season. He became just the third rider to win a race this season, joining teammates Bowers and Chad Johnson as the only riders to take the checkered flag and giving Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLube Kawasaki a dominating start.

Despite a healthy advantage in the standings, Bowers’ misfortune allowed the field to close in on him and he will need to rebound at the AMA Arenacross Series’ second visit to the state-of-the-art BOK Center Saturday night.

In the AMA Arenacross Lites Western Regional Championship, points leader A.J. Catanzaro looks to increase his points lead at the second of 10 races.

At last season’s memorable AMA Arenacross Series debut from the BOK Center, Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda’s Nathan Skaggs captured his third win of the 2009 season, holding off Demuth and Triple Effect Kawasaki’s Gray Davenport en route to closing the gap on eventual champion Jeff Gibson in the standings.

In the AMA Arenacross Lites class, Michael McDade raced to his first career victory, edging out Dave Ginolfi and Jim Neese.

After the outcome of last weekend’s action, the entire AMA Arenacross class field knows no one is immune to the hard luck that occurs in the bar-banging action of the world’s most intimate dirt-bike series. Despite Bowers’ early-season dominance, Saturday night proved anything can happen and a lineup of hungry riders will seek to claim victory this weekend.

Advance tickets are available for this weekend’s Tulsa Arenacross at the BOK Center Box Office, Ticketmaster charge by phone and ticketmaster.com. Tickets cost $2 more the day of the race.

Tickets are available online at www.arenacross.com and www.ticketmaster.com. For more information on the AMA Arenacross Series log on to www.arenacross.com.
