Ryan Morais Out for San Francisco
January 26, 2010 2:35pm
Anaheim, Calif. - Anaheim 2 proved to be a tough round for the Rockstar Energy Suzuki team, with the big news of the night being Lites-class rider Ryan Morais's crash during his heat race. Ryan was running in second place in the qualifier until another rider landed on top of him while attempting to triple the last part of the rhythm section before turn six. Ryan was quickly taken off the track to the Asterisk mobile medical unit, and Ryan was later transported to nearby UCI Medical Center, where he stayed until he was released at approximately 2:30 Sunday morning. According to Team Manager Bill Keefe, Ryan is currently at home resting, and will be seeing his own physician on Monday for further evaluation. Ryan is not expected to race in the upcoming San Francisco round, but will likely be back on his bike in time for San Diego.
Fellow Lites-class rider Hunter Hewitt also had a tough night, placing 17th out of 20 in the Lites main event due to a rough start, and a crash involving a tuff-block in the first few laps of the race. When asked about his crash, Hunter commented that, "[The] tuff block ended up right in front of me and I had nowhere to go, so I hit the block and went down. That crash put me all the way back in about 20th place, and it's hard to come back from something like that, but I tried my best and made it back to 17th."
In the Supercross class, Rockstar Energy Suzuki rider Tommy Hahn did well in his heat race, but got off to a slow start in the main that placed him near the back of the pack going into turn one. He pushed his way through the crowd however, and managed to earn a respectable 12th overall. "I was riding pretty tight, and I was catching these guys, but I couldn't really close the gap enough to do anything," commented Hahn after the race. Hahn has returned to his home in Texas to practice, and to avoid another storm that is predicted to hit Southern California.
When asked about the performance of the team's RM-Z 250s and the RM-Z 450, Team Manager Bill Keefe commented: "Our Suzukis are very competitive. The lap times are good and I think our set-up is very good." Hunter felt the same way, saying, "The bikes are always great, the mechanics do an awesome job with them."
Looking ahead to San Francisco, the team is hopeful that their luck will improve. "I'll be ready to go next week in San Fran, and I'm looking to get a better finish," said Hahn, who is still in the top-ten in the over-all standings. Hewitt is looking forward to next week as well, saying "We won't have our teammate Ryan with us, but I'll do everything I can for the team."
