AMA Supercross Class Recap from Phoenix
Ryan Dungey earned his first AMA Supercross class win and became the 53rd rider to win an AMA Supercross class main event.
Dungey became the eighth different rider to earn his first AMA Supercross class win on a Suzuki. He joins Tony DiStefano, Mark Barnett, Kent Howerton, Darrel Shultz, Larry Ward, Mike LaRocco, and Greg Albertyn.
Not since Greg Albertyn in 1997 has a Suzuki rider earned his first career win.
After 116 consecutive starts, which is an AMA Supercross record, Chad Reed’s streak is in jeopardy after a race injury.
Since January 4, 2003 when Chad Reed won Anaheim 1, to January 16, 2010, Reed did not miss a start.
For the first time in his career Reed has not earned a podium finish in the first two races.
Last year, after the second race of the season, James Stewart was seventh in points with 27, and this year he his seventh with 31 points, which means his points standings after two races in 2010 is better than his points standings in 2009.
