  • AMA Announces North Central Regional Director
PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is pleased to release the certified results of the AMA North Central Region election for the AMA Board of Directors. Candidate Jim Viverito was elected, receiving 61 percent of the votes. Current board member Bill Werner received 39 percent.

"We heartily welcome Jim Viverito to the AMA Board of Directors," said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. "Jim joins the board at an historic time as the AMA increases its advocacy efforts, expands its menu of member benefits, improves amateur racing and implements a new association management system that will better serve the needs of all members.

"I also want to thank Bill Werner for his distinguished service to the AMA board, and wish him well in his future endeavors," Dingman added.

Viverito is an AMA Life Member with more than four decades in motorcycling. His experience runs from amateur to professional racing, and includes more than 30 years of road riding and touring. A vocal member of grassroots motorcyclists' rights organizations, Viverito's background lends itself well to the AMA's mission of promoting the motorcycle lifestyle and protecting the future of motorcycling.

"I look forward to working with the AMA board and the staff of the AMA, and representing the members of the North Central Region for the betterment of motorcycling," Viverito said.

This AMA Board of Directors election was hosted by VoteNet.com, a leading provider of secure online elections. Voting was open between Dec. 15, 2009, and Jan. 15, 2010. Election results were verified and independently certified by VoteNet.com and the offices of accounting firm Plante & Moran PLC.

"I'm happy to report that the first AMA Board of Directors election conducted with the option of online voting went very smoothly," Dingman said. "This is another example of how the Association is willing to take advantage of modern technology to better meet, and ultimately exceed, our members' expectations."

Viverito will be officially seated on the AMA Board of Directors at the Feb. 13 board meeting in Indianapolis, Ind.

About the American Motorcyclist Association
Since 1924, the AMA has protected the future of motorcycling and promoted the motorcycle lifestyle. AMA members come from all walks of life, and they navigate many different routes on their journey to the same destination: freedom on two wheels. As the world's largest motorcycling rights organization, the AMA advocates for motorcyclists' interests in the halls of local, state and federal government, the committees of international governing organizations, and the court of public opinion. Through member clubs, promoters and partners, the AMA sanctions more motorsports competition and motorcycle recreational events than any other organization in the world. AMA members receive money-saving discounts from dozens of well-known suppliers of motorcycle services, gear and apparel, bike rental, transport, hotel stays and more. Through its Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, the AMA preserves the heritage of motorcycling for future generations.
