January 14, 2010 1:18pm
Blountville, Tn. ATVs will be part of the featured racing at the FMF Kentucky Indoor Motocross Championship this weekend at the ARENA at The David L. Williams Southeastern KY Ag & Expo Complex facility (January 15 & 16, 2010).
There will be 4 classes of ATV racing featured each night. ATV Youth (7-17yrs), ATV Begiinner, ATV Amateur, & ATV PRO are the featured classes. The youth riders are battling on 90cc machines that are specially prepared for the battles of motocross racing. Tennessee rider Morgan Payne is leading the points in the youth division by a narrow margin over North Carolina rider Beau Cagle, and North Carolina's Grayson Eller..
In the ATV PRO class its a dog fight every week between Johnson City, Tenn rider Tim Maupin and Bulls Gap, Tenn's Silas Lamons. Both riders are regulars on the ATVA National circuit and they race the indoor winter series to stay in shape and maintain their speed. Coming into this event Maupin has a narrow lead in the points chase over Lamons, but with points on the line both days nothing is safe.
"All the ATV classes will be exciting because there is a lot of ATV racers in Kentucky," explained Victory Sports president Sam Gammon. "For years we hosted an ATV National at Daniel Boone MX in London and it was always one of the biggest on the circuit. Kentucky is one of the top 5 states in ATV sales and the local riders can come out and race this event."
It may be cold outside, but the heated arena will be packed out and warm as amateurs and pros battle it out on the professionally built race track. Each weekend the Victory Sports staff create a track that is challenging for the beginner rider and the pros. Dirt will cover the arena floor and jumps will be built that will catapult the riders high into the air and send the pro riders jumping over 2 or 3 jumps at a time. Everyone enjoys the little pee wees and the women’s class, but the high flying pros are the most amazing to watch. This is an exciting show that the entire family will enjoy.
The FMF Kentucky Indoor Motocross Championship will feature 35 different classes, 50 cc to 40+, Beginner to Pro racers, ATV’s and Bikes.
The event is rounds #7 & #8 of the 16 race AMA sanctioned winter series.
