  • Jeff Canfield Named Technical Director For Amateur National Championships and GNCC Racing
Morgantown, W.Va. - Jeff Canfield has been named as Technical Director of the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships and the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series.

"I am excited to be working with the GNCC racing community and the Loretta Lynn program." Canfield said. "I look forward to taking my professional experience and working with AMA amateur riders and expanding my reach to off-road."

Canfield will oversee the implementation and enforcement of rules for competition and equipment for both series. Canfield has been a part of the racing industry for the past 20 years. In 2004, Canfield was named Assistant Series Manager for Supercross and Motocross, and was promoted to Series Manager in 2007, overseeing the competition of today's top Motocross and Supercross stars, including Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart and Ryan Villopoto. In 2008, MX Sports brought Canfield on board to serve as Race Director for the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. Canfield will continue as MX Sports Pro Racing Race Director in addition to his duties as Technical Director.

"The experience and knowledge he brings from Pro Motocross is a welcome addition to the Loretta Lynn team," said Tim Cotter, Director of MX Sports.

"GNCC Racing is very lucky to have someone of Canfield's caliber on staff," said Jeff Russell, GNCC Trail Boss. "We are sure that Jeff will be able to answer any and all questions regarding competition rules and equipment."

The 2010 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series kicks off on February 27th- March 2nd as part of Bike Week at the Westgate River Ranch Resort in River Ranch, Florida, with ATV's racing on Sunday, February 28, and bikes racing on Tuesday, March 2.

For more information, check out the official series website at GNCCRacing.com or call 304-284-0084.

The AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn Ranch will celebrate its 28th year of racing on August 2-7, 2010 in Hurricane Mills, TN.

About GNCC Racing

The Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series is America's premier off-road racing series. Founded in 1979, the 13-round championship is produced exclusively by Racer Productions. Cross country racing is one of the most physically demanding sports in the world. The grueling three-hour GNCC races lead as many as 1,800 riders through tracks ranging in length from eight to 12 miles, competing for more than $3 million in prizes. With varied terrain, including hills, woods, mud, dirt, rocks and motocross sections, GNCC events are tests of both survival and speed. For more information, please visit gnccracing.com.

About MX Sports and the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships

MX Sports, Inc. is a Morgantown, West Virginia-based motocross production company that manages the AMA National Motocross Championships - the world's largest amateur motocross race. Hosted annually since 1982 at the home of country music star Loretta Lynn in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, the event is the premier amateur motocross race in the world. Approximately 25,000 racers attempt to qualify in 35 classes at the 52 Area Qualifying races held annually from February through May and 12 Regional Championship races conducted in June at select motocross facilities across the country. Only 1,400 will make it to the final. The National event, christened "The World's Greatest Motocross Vacation," is held annually in the first week of August. As proof of the significance of winning an AMA Amateur National Championship title, most of today's top motocross and Supercross stars-including Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, and Ryan Villopoto-won championships at Loretta Lynn's.
