Melissa Appel, Road Racer - CCS Series
Melissa bought her first motorcycle in 2003, a Kawasaki 636. A year later she began doing trackdays with NESBA (the Northeastern Sportbike Association) and soon after became a control rider for the organization. She now does over 20 events a year. Melissa's first race weekend was in 2006. She did one or two events per year until 2009. The introduction of the Femoto series in 2009 inspired her to start concentrating on racing more seriously. Her strategy paid off when she won the CCS Great Plain Femmoto Middleweight Championship and finished third in the Midwest Region. Melissa has now claimed 30 podium finishes. Her most inspiring and recent accomplishment was being crowned the 2009 Grand Champion of the Women's Supersport class at the Michelin US Motorcycle Championship. Melissa's goals for next year is to repeat her Femmoto and Michelin championship finishes, take home at least one regional expert championship with CCS (Championship Cup Series), qualify for the AMA Supersport class at Heartland Park and Road America, and obtain her full AMA license for 2011.
