  • Husqvarna Challenge Cup SuperMoto Race September 27

Clio, MI – Husqvarna racers from across the country are invited to compete for $1750 in Husky rewards during the first-ever Husqvarna Challenge Cup SuperMoto Race on Sunday, September 27 at Auto City Speedway in Clio, Michigan. This race is being held in conjunction with the final round of the Michigan SuperMoto Championship. In addition to the three Michigan SuperMoto Championship classes, Beginner, Amateur and Pro, there will be a Husqvarna Challenge Cup race where competitors from across the country on Husky SM450R and SM510R supermoto bikes will compete for $1750 in awards including a $1000 Husqvarna retail gift card to the winner—plus bragging rights as the first-ever Husqvarna Challenge Cup Champion.

The Husqvarna Challenge Cup race is an open class; any size bike and any level of competitor (at least 16 years old). The participants may also compete in one of the three regular classes for a discounted rate. The entry fee is $75 for each rider to compete in the Challenge Cup and $10 for spectators. At least two practice sessions will be held. See flyer for details or visit www.misupermoto.com.

“Supermoto racing continues to be an important focus for Husqvarna and we think MISuperMoto’s Husqvarna Challenge Cup is an excellent fit for us,” explains Husqvarna Motorcycles North America President Mark Brady. “It will provide an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the quality and performance of Husqvarna supermoto bikes.” No stranger to the sport, Husqvarna is the two-time defending S1 Supermoto title holder. In August, World Supermoto champ Adrien Chareyre put a stock Husqvarna SM450 onto the podium at X Games 15.

The Auto City Speedway course includes 17-degree NASCAR® banked turns, a long straightaway, sweeping turns, and a dirt section with a tabletop, double jump and rhythm section. It is safe for amateurs while offering a challenging, fast course for pros. Lap times for the Pro Class are in the 1:10 range. The round two Pro winner was Bloomington Power Sports’ Chase Guthrie.

MISuperMoto’s Dave Duprey added, “We are very pleased that Husqvarna chose our series to have its first-ever Challenge Cup SuperMoto race. We want to build on this year’s race into an expanded relationship in 2010 which could mean more opportunities for racers in the Midwest and across the country to compete in an organized supermoto series. I encourage all Husky riders to head to Auto City to support this event and supermoto in America. Bring your friends and family too because in these tough economic times we need to support the manufactures like Husqvarna that step up to support us enthusiasts.”

The Husqvarna Challenge Cup joins the third and final round of the Michigan SuperMoto Championship, presented by College Bike Shop. Leading the Pro Class is Guthrie who has a nine-point lead over KTM’s Jason Hine. The Amateur Class leader is Team199/Cernic’s Suzuki/Red Bull’s Ron Meredith with a six-point lead ahead of second-place John Kelesy. The Beginner Class is a dead-heat between Martin Hanstein and Paul Havercroft who are leading by one point over Dan Marinucci and Cameron Sutherland.

The Pro Class is vying for championship bragging rights for this first-ever Michigan title, a Honda CRF50F, a Dubach Racing Development (DRD) full exhaust system, an AxiomTV gift card, and a 2010 MISuperMoto season pass. The Amateur and Beginner class champions will also receive a 2010 MISuperMoto season pass, DRD gift card and AxiomTV gift card along with EKS Brand goggles.

On Sunday, September 27, gates open at 10:30 a.m. for both racers and spectators at Auto City Speedway. Practice starts at 12 p.m. with the heats kicking off at 4 p.m. The speedway is located at 10205 N. Saginaw Road in Clio. For map and directions, visit www.autocityspeedway.com. Racer entry fee is $75 and spectators are $10 which includes pit access. The Husqvarna Challenge Cup racers can pay $35 additional fee to enter one of the three regular series classes in addition to the cup race.
