News from Monster Energy Burkhart HMC Racing
September 8, 2009 3:12pm
Advance, NC - Mark Burkhart, owner of the Monster Energy Burkhart HMC Racing Team finished the 2009 XTRM AMA Supermoto Series in second place overall. Despite setting the fastest qualifying time and race lap times, Burkhart was unable to translate his blazing speed on the track into another Championship title.
In moto one, it was a crash early in the race when he lost the rear end of the bike on the asphalt that dropped him back to twelfth place. He worked his back from twelfth to finish in fourth.
In moto two, Burkhart stalled his bike while running in second place. By the time the bike restarted he was in dead last and had to fight his way back to finish third and on the podium.
"This is going to go down as one of my craziest seasons ever. All year I had the speed to be at the front, but my sense of balance was not where it needed to be and I ended up spending too much time on the ground to win the championship. While I am okay with taking second place, I am too much of a competitor to be happy with anything less than a championship. I learned a great deal this year as I transitioned from racer to racer and team owner; I would not trade that experience for anything. I am looking forward to coming back next year with more experience as a team owner and get back to racing for the win," commented Mark Burkhart.
Burkhart added, "This year would not have been possible without the help of all my sponsors and I can't thank them enough. Monster Energy, Foremost Insurance and Parts Unlimited/Thor stepped up big to make sure I had the resources I needed to win. In addition, Mitch Hansen and Uli Toporsch did a spectacular job making sure my bikes ran flawlessly.
The next race for Mark Burkhart will be at the Proximus Superbiker event at the Circuit de Mettet in Belgium on October 9-11, 2009. Details can be found at www.superbiker.com
