  • Bench Racing Ammo: 1986

Since all the hype this week is centered on that epic duel between Honda’s David Bailey and Ricky Johnson from the storied 1986 Anaheim Supercross, we’ve decided to focus this week’s Motosport Outlet Bench Racing Ammo on the rest of that 1986 Nippodenso AMA Supercross Series. Anaheim ’86 was one of the greatest races ever, and it was definitely a great way to start the season, but who won the following race? Ultimately RJ would prevail to win the championship that year, but who were the other major players? Well, we dug into our race results vault and dug out the podium finishers for each race that season, and also noted where either Bailey or Johnson finished.

(Note: Ward, who was the defending AMA Supercross Champion, did not qualifying for Anaheim 1 after his Kawasaki snapped its throttle cable early in his heat, and you had to finish in the top 14 to make the Semi. But like Jake Weimer last weekend, he came back from the DNQ to win the very next race at the Houston Astrodome.)
