Durham Wins Dunlop Silver Tire Award at AMA Winter National Olympics
Buffalo, N.Y.--Suzuki’s Darryn Durham is the recipient of the prestigious Dunlop Silver Tire Award. The honor was announced at the recently concluded AMA Winter National Olympics at Gatorback Cycle Park in Gainesville, Florida.
“Every year we present the Silver Tire Award at the Mini Os to the top-scoring rider in the expert divisions and Darryn really shined out there,” said Dunlop Vice President Mike Buckley. “He was the top-scoring rider from all the divisions, which underscores the effort he put out this year.”
The 18-year-old from Butler, Pennsylvania took the Motocross overall win in 250 A Exp Stk and collected second in both 125 A Exp Stk and 125 A Exp Mod. He was also 8th in 250 A Exp Mod. In Supercross competition Durham was just as formidable, scoring seconds in 250 A Exp Mod and 125 A Exp Stk, plus 7th in 125 A Exp Mod and 10th in 250 A Exp Stk.
For over 20 years Dunlop has been the official tire of the Mini Olympics. The company constructed “Big Knobby”, a huge motocross tire, just behind the starting gate this year to symbolize the successful launching point for numerous young motocrossers. Dunlop also sponsored an electronic bulletin board so that competitors, their families and support personnel could keep up with all of the racing action.
