Monster Energy / Babbitt’s / Kawasaki Earns Two Podiums

Irvine, Calif. (November 6, 2007) – Monster Energy/Babbitt’s/Kawasaki opened the 2007-08 Toyota AMA Arenacross Series this weekend in Des Moines, Iowa, earning podium finishes in each of the first two races.

On Friday night, Monster Energy/Babbitt’s/Kawasaki riders Brock Sellards and Kelly Smith, riding a Kawasaki KX™ 250F, easily qualified for the main event. Both riders ran a steady race with Smith finishing third and Sellards earning fifth.

On Saturday night Sellards and Smith once again advanced to the main event with Sellards earning the holeshot and the win in his heat race, and taking the holeshot in the main event. Sellards led early in the feature before contact forced him off his bike. Though he lost the lead with the fall, Sellards recovered quickly and resumed in third position where he would finish just ahead of Smith.

“The first round is always tough,” said Sellards. “Everyone is so amped up for it and we knew we just had to get through. There was a lot of really aggressive riding and the team did what we had to do in the opening round. We know you can’t win the championship in the first round, so after I had my wheels taken out in the Saturday main, I just got back on and rode to the best finish we could get.”

Following the Des Moines round, Smith is currently fourth with 38 points and Sellards is fifth with 36 points.

The Monster Energy/Babbitt’s/Kawasaki team is preparing for the next round in Albany, N.Y., on November 10 and 11.
