Unbound Energy’s Chad Reed Wins First Night Of Rockstar U.S. Open;

Saturday Crashes Results In 2nd Overall; Reed had ‘er in the bag with his dominant performance on Friday, but tangled in the start of Saturday’s main event and crashed to 2nd o/a (8th/2nd)
CORONA, Calif., (Oct. 15, 2007) – Former Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series champion Chad Reed (Unbound Energy/San Manuel Yamaha) looked to be in the driver’s seat to capture the 2007 Rockstar U.S. Open and the $100,000 grand prize.
“Things went well on Friday, but Saturday was a different story,” said Reed.
A tie-up at the start with eventual winner Grant Langston (Yamaha) and Kawasaki’s Tim Ferry would not only end Reed’s shot at the $250,000 Trifecta Bonus Award, but a lap 11 crash with Honda’s Andrew Short would keep Reed – who wound up 8th in the crash-marred Saturday contest - from winning the overall title and $100,000 bonus.
“I can look back now and say that things pretty much sucked for us on the track on Saturday,” said Reed. “But from a fan’s perspective, that had to be a blast to watch. The racing’s super tight and when you get the top guys from the AMA Supercross series all going for the win there’s going to be a lot of banging going on. Things can happen – and did on Saturday.”
Reed would wind up 2nd overall on the weekend, going 1st/8th.
